Lesbian Kisses - Coronation Street comes of age

Coronation Street must be one of, if not the longest-running soap opera pretty much anywhere in the world. It's no surprise therefore that the show has covered a wide variety of issues as it moves with the times.

Sophie and Sian play best friends who succumb to their feelings for each other thus providing the Street with it's first lesbian storyline.

Sophie and Sian are played by Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson. You can watch an interview with them here where they discuss how they played the roles.

However Coronation Street was something of a latecomer, in TV terms, to the whole lesbian storyline phenomenon. We will be returning to this theme in future posts when we look back upon the TV history of lesbian kissing.
